Important notices
Things about John Garside & Son funeral services you may need to know
Disbursements
Disbursements are essentially fees incurred that we pay on your behalf. If you would like to make a press announcement, for example, we will pay for it and pass the costs to you by way of the funeral account. This can then be settled with one complete payment from the estate.
Doctors fees for cremation forms
The deceased cannot be cremated unless the cause of death is confirmed. Two cremation certificates (Forms B & C) must be signed by the deceased’s own doctor and Form C by a doctor from another practice. The costs of these are listed under the disbursements, and we will collect them on your behalf. These certificates are not normally required when the death has been reported to the coroner.
Other fees will be incurred in respect of the church, crematorium and ministers of religion. Other disbursements will be as newspaper announcements, floral tributes and catering facilities.
Notices to the press
You may wish to place an announcement in the local or national press. This has three useful objectives:
- To inform anyone wishing to attend of the date, time and location of the funeral
- To express your wishes regarding flowers or donations to a named charity
- To reduce the chance of an embarrassing encounter with an uninformed friend or neighbour.
Kindly note: We prefer not to publicise the address from where the funeral is to leave, so as not to encourage unwanted visitors while you are away.

Floral Tributes
Dignified and silent, a traditional flower arrangement is the most visible sign of emotion and respect. In the case of a burial the flowers would normally be left at the grave, but with a cremation you may wish for the flowers to be taken to a destination of your choice. This could be another family grave, retained until the interment of the remains, or in the case of cut flowers, taken to a nursing home, hospital, hospice or similar.
A list of the floral tributes can be made on your request.
Donations to Charity
If you wish relatives and friends to send donations in lieu of flowers, we would ask you to specify the charity or charities of choice. To inform people that these are your wishes, we will include details in the press notice.
The donations can be collected and forwarded to the charity by ourselves, by you or by a nominated person.
If we are requested to do this we will collect the donations, list them and forward them onto
the charity or charities concerned. An acknowledgement letter will be forwarded directly to you.
Catering
We will be happy to arrange the catering and host for the funeral wake.
